Learning materials
This section contains examples of learning materials produced in printed and interactive formats. In most cases I have written and/or edited the copy as well as being responsible for the graphic design, production and project management.

Peer education programme
The Peer education programme is a set of materials for anyone in the voluntary or further education sectors working with homeless (or ex-homeless) people. The aim of the programme is to support learners in developing and delivering their own workshops to groups of their peers. This can greatly increase self-confidence and communication skills, and has in many cases led participants on to employment, further training or voluntary work.
The pack consists of a ringbinder containing 190 pages of training materials, a trainer's guide booklet, and a CD containing editable versions of the training materials.

Money Matters To Me
Money Matters To Me is an interactive web site which aims to teach basic numeracy and financial ability by teaching users about day-to-day financial matters.
I researched, wrote and edited the module on debt management, and copyedited the other modules. I also drew up the specification for many of the interactive financial tools, including the interactive budgeter.
(Please note that I wasn't involved in the graphic design or the technical programming of the site.)

Target Skills: Level 2 Numeracy
Target Skills is a series of interactive CD-ROMs designed to to help students develop skills, knowledge and understanding in literacy and numeracy; they also tackle some of the new aspects of the adult literacy and numeracy standards and curriculum.
Each module contains a series of explanatory slideshows or animations, follow by interactive practice exercises and an on-line assessment.
As well as being involved in the original learning design for the pilot project, I researched, wrote and edited a module on charts and graphs for the latest Target Skills disc (Level 2 Numeracy).

Basically Numbers and Basically Communication
These two packs consist of a set of printed worksheets and projects, together with a CD-ROM containing interactive versions of the same materials.
It represents an early (1997) attempt at multiple media development and production, using Quark XPress for the print development, then repurposing essentially the same pages using Adobe Acrobat, for the CD-ROM version.
Such developments are a still a major interest of mine, but the technologies I would now use to achieve this are very different (e.g. Flash 5, or XML, in combination with Quark XPress and Avenue.quark).
You can see a few sample activities by clicking below; certain features, such as audio, have been removed for this on-line demo version.
My role in the project:

- Programming.
To read a PDF document you need Adobe Reader. If you don't have it you can download it from the Adobe site.
