Web site design

This section contains examples of projects delivered on the internet. The roles I have taken include writing, editing, project management, site design, navigation, HTML and PHP coding and Javascript programming as well as site management and maintenance.

St Werburghs community web site

St Werburghs community web site

www.stwerburghs.org

This is the web site for the community in Bristol where I live, commissioned by St Werburghs Neighbourhood Association, the local community group.

Despite the fact that over 75 per cent of the work on this site was done pro bono, it's probably one of the most ambitious and complex sites I've developed. As well as a set of discussion forums, there are lots of other ways for St Werburghs residents to interact with the site (adding their business to the business directory, contributing photos, book reviews, news stories and events, etc.). And the site is user-editable, with lots of different groups and individuals contributing to the site's content, so the log in and user management systems are very complex, but the whole system has to be easy to use, as contributors have very variable levels of IT skills.

My role in the project:

Arthritic Association web site

The Arthritic Association

www.arthriticassociation.org.uk

This is the web site for the Arthritic Association, a small charity that promotes natural, complementary methods for the relief of arthritis.

The site provides information about the Association's services, and extra information such as recipes that follow the Association's dietary guidance.

The web site is tightly integrated with the Association's print publishing programme, with automated systems built into the site to enable simultaneous publishing in print and on the web site.

My role in the project:

The Real Press web site

The Real Press

www.therealpress.co.uk

This is the web site for The Real Press, a small, independent company which aims to publish 'books which we really believe in - whether they are works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry or anything else'.

The web site was designed and produced in a very economical way - I was commissioned to design the 'look and feel' and navigation for the site, and provided the company with a template for DreamWeaver, them to add content and keep the site up to date using Adobe Contribute.

My role in the project:

Humanitrain web site

Humanitrain

www.humanitrain.com

Humanitrain was established to provide first-aid, security and health and safety training to humanitarian oranisations and their aid workers.

The site was designed to be clear, simple and easy to use, and was produced in a very short timescale, helping the fledgling company to win important contracts with the International Red Cross, the Disasters Emergency Committee, and Save The Children.

My role in the project:

T Mag web site

T Mag – the magazine for the learning and skills sector

www.tmag.co.uk

The T Mag web site provides an on-line shopfront for the printed magazine, offering sample issues of the magazine itself and the companion Document Digest, details of the current issue, and an archive of selected articles.

The design of the new web site was carried out alongside the redesign and relaunch of the printed magazine, which was also handled by me.

The site features a custom-built content management system, allowing magazine staff to keep the content of the site up to date.
